Make Your Own African Print Clutch

African prints (also called Ankara) are known for their unique mix of bold designs and vibrant colors, so much so that they can sometimes be a bit intimidating when mixed into a single project. As the owner of Cultured Expressions Sewing Studio, Lisa Shepard Stewart is a queen of working with African textiles in various projects. She is an experienced instructor known for encouraging creativity and offering honest feedback so students can achieve their desired results.

In this class, students will enjoy working with these exciting cotton prints as they create a "modern vintage" mini clutch, complete with a metal frame and a choice of creative variations. (Beginner sewists, this course is easy to follow! Lisa demonstrates each step so you can construct your own mini clutch.) Lisa uses a fun and simple "Fuse and Stitch" piecing method, so you'll be able to focus on the beauty of the fabrics as you work. She guides you through preparing the squares and layout of the clutch before showing you how to sew the horizontal seams. Finish your favorite new accessory by adding the lining and (optional) adding a wristlet strap.
