Needle Felting Made Easy

Needle felting is an easy (and amazingly portable) craft to jump into! Create beautiful felted paintings, handmade gifts, accessories, and more with this relaxing craft that will quickly become your go-to for unwinding at the end of the day. Fiber artist Karen Straight will be your guide to getting started. You will soon learn that two-dimensional needle felting is an enjoyable and accessible art form with limitless creative possibilities.

In this class, you will learn everything you need to know to create beautiful needle-felted paintings starting with a detailed supply list, including an overview of felting needles. Karen will also introduce you to needle-felted paintings' exciting range of fibers. Next, you will learn multiple methods of transferring your design, AKA your mini-masterpiece. Explore the role of underpaintings to add spark and interest to your project and learn how to blend and layer fiber to create new exciting colors. As the class progresses, you’ll take away Karen's helpful needle felting techniques to create texture, line, and dimension will rapidly improve your artwork. 

This course focuses on landscapes. Karen demonstrates the techniques while making a felted landscape, encouraging you to make a felted landscape of your choice as well.

Supplies Needed

Supplies you will need to get started: a felting mat, felting needles (Karen uses 38 gauge for most of her work), short fiber wool batting in landscape colors, a piece of light-colored wool felt, and a marker to draw your design on the felt. The Clover "pen" style felting tool is very helpful, but not required. Karen will cover supplies in-depth in the course so we encourage you to watch before buying.
