Enter a magical world of wild abandon where we sew using our eyes and decision-making skills instead of store-bought patterns. In this class, award-winning designers Shannon Leigh Roudhán and Jason Bowlsby will teach you to develop the critical eye and skills needed to create your own unique, contemporary, wonky interpretations of iconic quilt blocks. Enjoy the fun of making scrappy blocks (no predetermined pattern!) that match your style and taste, with guidance on improv techniques and color choice.
The Scrappy Wonky experience inspires an OMPH of creativity and imagination. Starting with Scrappy Wonky Log Cabin block, follow a progressively wonky path through pineapples, two kinds of stars, the ever-popular Scrappy Wonky Rose, and the wild and fun Genie in a Bottle Block. Piece them together into a wall hanging, throw, or full-size quilt — it’s up to you! Take one, two, or three block classes that look intriguing to you, or take the entire series.

What you will learn

Create gorgeous textile art creations with any sewing machine that can sew a straight stitch.

Learn how to create improv versions of classic blocks — no measuring or perfect corners needed

Supplies and Schedule
+ This course includes a handout with the block pattern and assembly diagram.
+ Supplies You'll Need: Fabric scraps in all shapes and sizes (make sure you have some longer pieces of fabric to cut into 2”- 3” wide strips), rotary cutter, cutting mat, fabric scissors, sewing machine, quilting ruler, neutral colored thread in top, and bobbin (we recommend at least 50 wt).
