Embark on a year-long adventure to craft a beautiful festive quilt! Join expert quilt designer and color enthusiast Shelley Cavanna to create her Yuletide Sampler Quilt block by block. Author of Barnstar Sampler, Shelley is no stranger to block-of-the-month projects. This popular quilt-making format provides opportunities to practice various quilting skills in small packages with a bonus of a newly finished quilt by the end. Shelley’s detailed videos will walk you through the immersive journey of piecing a Yuletide Sampler. Plus the easy-to-access discussion rooms allow you to ask Shelley questions along the way.

In this course, you’ll learn how to make Lone-Star-styled stars using only squares and rectangles. Shelley shares her favorite stitch-and-flip techniques for creating complex angular shapes with easy step-by-step instructions and without biased edges or templates! While this quilt has a few triangle blocks, Shelley demonstrates how to minimize block distortion and carefully piecing techniques for beautifully accurate blocks. This 12-month block-of-the-month project will help you grow your quilting skills and allow you to practice various techniques as you assemble this stunning wintery sampler made simple!

The finished quilt is 80” x 92”.

What is the Quilt-A-Long schedule?

Our quilt will be pieced together over a year, with a new video tutorial and a set of instructions for a new block published on the 15th of each month. The first block will be available on 9/15/23. You will get a reminder email each month that the new block pattern and video are ready for viewing.

Don't miss our Virtual Launch Party on September 12th at 5pm Pacific Time. You can ask Shelley questions and get her tips for the adventure ahead. The Party will be recorded if you can not make it.

What if I fall behind the schedule?

Don't stress if you fall behind. Your Creative Spark course content doesn’t expire, so just enjoy the process and work at a pace that is comfortable for you!

Stitch Lone-Star-style stars block using only square and rectangle fabric pieces
Explore stitch-and-flip techniques for making complex angular shapes
Carefully craft accurate hourglass blocks
Use a Tri-Recs ruler to cut pieces from Triangle-in-Square blocks and paper templates if you don’t have a ruler
Precision piecing, matching points, and nesting seams for maximum accuracy
