Judy Gauthier

Quilter, Author, Scraps Whisperer

I am a quilt shop owner, author for C&T Publishing and fabric designer for Studio e Fabrics. I am also an ICU nurse. I come from a long line of fabric hoarders. Most people that are authors will tell you that they have been sewing all their lives. Well, this is true of me as well. I started by sewing my own clothing in the 6th grade. I was an eager 4-Her, and it took me 9 years to win a blue ribbon at the county fair. That’s because we had a huge population in the county, and there were limited first place ribbons that could be awarded. I learned to sew by watching the judges pick apart each and every garment and sewing item from hundreds of students that came before them. This was a spectator sport! So, I learned the hard way, but the right way. I have every confidence that when you watch and take my classes you will be learning to do things the right way. I have years of embedded knowledge in my brain that is just bursting at the seams!

Why We Love Judy!

Take it from a quilting personality

Judy Gauthier's skills as a sewist are unparalleled. She is not only a terrifically talented quilter, she is also a fabric designer, an accomplished quilt book author, and an expert sewing instructor. Judy shows command of anything she sets her mind to. She is able to make things that seem near impossible look easy to just about anyone willing to learn. She is the kind of person that empowers you to be better than you think you can be. I always look forward to seeing what Judy has been working on because it never fails to disappoint.

Take it from an industry professional

For over 15 years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Judy Gauthier at The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show, where Judy is a vendor with her shop, Bungalow Quilting and Yarn, and also a contributing member of our faculty team as an educational presenter. Judy’s passion for in-person teaching successfully translated over to digital teaching in 2020 when, due to COVID-19, The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show pivoted to a virtual online event.

In April 2017, Nancy Zieman and I invited Judy to be Nancy’s guest on a two-part Sewing With Nancy television series featuring Judy’s book, Rainbow Quilts for Scrap Lovers. Judy was organized and efficient and presented her projects with enthusiasm along with a practical approach for viewers to easily understand.

Judy is always courteous, detailed and prompt with each of our many deadlines. In addition to her vast technical quilting knowledge, Judy also exhibits kindness. Our entire team enjoys working with Judy and we look forward to working with her on future projects.

Judy has a genuine interest in both the technical side and the quality of the end product. I feel Judy is a positive and essential member of our industry. I give her my highest level of recommendation without any hesitation. Judy will be a great addition to Creative Spark.
