SUPERPOWERS:

  • Quilter
  • Hand-Dyer
  • Stitching Instructor

Laura Wasilowski loves fabric. Her first love was a sweet pink gingham fabric selected for a 4-H sewing project. As a college student, she discovered more exotic fabrics and while she earned a degree in costume design, she found a new thrill - dyeing.

For many years, Laura created hand-dyed fabrics for garments that she sold in boutiques across the country. It was a friendly neighbor who introduced Laura to the wonderful world of quilt making. Today, Laura enjoys creating pictorial art quilts that are collected and exhibited internationally. Her free-form hand embroideries share a similar style with her narrative quilts. Whimsical in nature, both express her joy and love of creating art. Laura lives with her colorful husband, Steve, in Elgin, IL where she hand dyes fabric and thread for her business, Artfabrik. Why We Love Laura!

TRUST A PRO

Laura has been teaching for us at Quilter’s Affair in Sisters, OR for years, she brings life to the classroom like no other teacher.

With her sense of humor, patience and wealth of knowledge, the students leave her classes with a tool box filled to the brim with new techniques, laughter and friendship.

Laura is professional and approachable, always willing to help her students succeed. We love having her part of our team of teachers!

Repeat Student

I have had the privilege of taking numerous classes with Laura over the past 15 years in both a guild setting and at the International Quilt Festival. I never tire of being in her classes because I always learn something new from her. Most important, she is a fabulous teacher who gives you 200%.

Her kits and instructions are complete. She is happy to help each student individually. The real joy in her class is that you can just compose, embroider or build your project at your own pace and she is so very happy to help and assist as needed.

She loves to let you 'try your wings' and if you are very, very lucky, you get a few songs to make it all worthwhile. Try her, you'll love her!

Explains not just how but why

Great course with Laura! Each step is explained - not just how to do, but why - what might go wrong and how to prevent it. Love that she encourages students to make the design their own. (Review of Little Bird & Daisies)

Well Presented

Laura did an excellent job of giving clear precise instructions. I expect I will be taking all her classes. The project will make terrific Christmas cards. (Review of Wishing You Joy)

Fun & Free

This is a basic class for beginners but also has some great tips for others.  The instructions are clearly stated and if you have a question, there is a place for that!  Can't beat the bargain! Thanks Laura! (Review of Wishing You Joy)
